Dr Soumya Swaminathan, WHO's chief scientist, praised India's decision to resume COVID-19 vaccine exports on Tuesday. She asserted that this decision will have a significant impact on achieving global Vaccine Equity.
"COVAX welcomes the decision to restart Covid vaccine exports. Will go a long way to achieve global Vaccine Equity," Soumya Swaminathan stated in a tweet.
Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, declared on Monday that the Government of India will resume Vaccine Maitri in the fourth quarter of this year, a programme to distribute COVID vaccinations to countries around the world and fulfil its commitment under Covax. The Health Minister estimated that the target for the fourth quarter of this year is around 100 crores and emphasised that immunisation of own nationals is the topmost priority.
