Online Classes & Exams For Displaced Medical Students In Manipur: NMC
As per the directives issued by the NMC, all displaced students from the violence-affected areas of Manipur will now have the option to attend online classes or participate in a hybrid mode at Churachandpur Medical College.
According to the reports in the media, in response to the ongoing law-and-order issues impacting medical education in Manipur, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has devised temporary solutions for displaced students from four medical colleges. Following a comprehensive discussion with state authorities and medical college deans, the NMC announced decisions aimed at ensuring continuity in education despite the challenging circumstances, the reports in the media informed.
As per the directives issued by the NMC, all displaced students from the violence-affected areas of Manipur will now have the option to attend online classes or participate in a hybrid mode at Churachandpur Medical College. Additionally, examinations for these students will be organised exclusively at Churachandpur Medical College, addressing concerns related to attendance and internal assessment through special classes.
The state government of Manipur had been actively seeking alternative arrangements for conducting classes and examinations since the outbreak of violence on May 3, prompting the NMC's intervention.
The NMC emphasised that this arrangement is temporary and not a transfer or migration, as there is no provision for such actions in regulations. The decision is specific to the unique situation in Manipur and is applicable for a period of one year or until normalcy is restored, whichever comes earlier.
Reportedly in its communication to the commissioner cum secretary, of health and family welfare in Manipur, the NMC stated, "Permission so granted is specific to a specific situation and may not be taken as precedent at all."
As per the media reports, the NMC recommended the state authority consider utilising displaced faculties at Churachandpur Medical College, emphasizing the need for external examiners from outside Manipur for conducting physical examinations. The granted permissions aim to provide a temporary resolution to the crisis, acknowledging the extraordinary circumstances in Manipur's medical education landscape.
