Rakuten Medical To Bring Its Innovative Cancer Treatment To India

In order to bring its innovative cancer treatment technology Alluminox to India, Rakuten Medical has newly established its subsidiary in India. With this move, Rakuten Medical Private Limited (Rakuten Medical India) will strengthen its position in the country and expand its presence worldwide, the company said in a statement. The Mumbai-based company plans to develop and commercialise treatments based on the Alluminox platform in India, beginning with head and neck cancer. 

In India, the total number of new cancer patients in 2020 was over 1.3 million, making it the 4th largest cancer patient population in the world. There is a high prevalence of head and neck cancer, which accounts for 30 per cent of all cancer types. India accounts for approximately 26 per cent of all head and neck cancer cases worldwide. The majority of these patients present with advanced disease, which also corresponds with poorer outcomes and higher mortality rates.

By transforming treatment in India where there is a significant number of cancer patients and high unmet needs in the world, we hope to contribute to the lives of as many patients as possible, ”said Mickey Mikitani, Co-CEO of  Rakuten Medical.
