Delhi-based investment consultancy, Turiya Investments, is launching socially responsible venture through its investor network. The outfit, Lok Kavach Healthcare, has invented a new Anti-Viral Coating (AVC) technology that acts against all harmful microbial activity including the deadly Coronavirus, bacterial and fungal spoors. This product has gone through several tests for effectiveness, in European and Indian Labs and its manufacturers say it’s an anti-microbial solution that can be applied to any number of surfaces, as well as cloth, to insure this material against the harmful microbial activity. Perhaps not on par with the Corona vaccine in the world’s fight against COVID-19, this invention is, however, a significant step towards ensuring the world is less hindered by Corona, says the team launching it.
Commenting on the launch of this product, Luke Talwar, CEO, Turiya Investments, remarks, “A lot of R&D has gone into creating an Anti-Viral Coating technology of this standard. The best part of this product, to be marketed as a direct-to-consumer product initially, through an online portal, is that it is totally safe for human use. This product starts working with efficacy of 99.995 per cent within seconds of application and as little as a cap full of the elixir is sufficient to sanitize a surface against microbial activity for weeks.”
Dr JR Rao, a Biochemical Microbiology Scientist, who lead a team of scientists and inventors to create AVC, further explains, “The Quaternary Ammonium Compounds in our AVC solution when sprayed or used in washing cycles, is permanently attached to textile substrates by ionic interactions between the cationic QUATS and the anionic fiber surface. Anchored to the QUATS, our AVC composites in the elixir synergistically exhibit antimicrobial peptide-like activity to inactivate viral spike proteins.”
This technology will be offered to consumers in the form of a liquid that can be soaked with cloth to make it resistant to microbial activity, including the deadly Coronavirus, till the next wash. Not only will AVC work with efficacy of 99.995 per cent, but it will also continue its actions for weeks should the material not be exposed to more AVC in the interim. Even hard surfaces like wood, tiles, cement and plastic – to name a few can be wiped with the liquid to keep it safe against microbes over protracted amounts of time. This anti-viral coating liquid is set to change the ecosystem for users at a time the world has had to go into hiding because of COVID-19.
The people behind the invention are: Dr J R Rao, Environmental and public health microbiological sciences, at the Dept of Agriculture to date and as twinned Professor (Experimental Medicine at QUB) and Biomedicine and Bio-molecular Sciences, (University of Ulster), Northern Ireland UK and Luke Talwar, CEO of Turiya Investments, who is an investor and strategic partner in this venture.
