On Wednesday, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal set in motion a mega blood donation drive on the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader at the event invoked a pledge from people to donate blood twice a year. He further underlined the need to inculcate the culture of blood donation as there were few voluntary donors.
The CM, expressing a desire to donate blood, said that being a diabetic kept him from donating blood. On the occasion at Maulana Azad Medical College, the Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, donated blood. The AAP chief said about 70 camps were set up across the city, and people enthusiastically appeared to donate blood. He further added that the count of camps would increase next year.
Speaking about Bhagat Singh, Kejriwal added that it was the freedom fighter’s dream to provide good education and health care to everyone in the country apart from the farmers and workers getting their due. The country will achieve unparalleled progress if education and health services are improved for the 130 crore people within five years, he added.
